Sizing

Choosing the right unicorn bottle size without a second sample round

28 Jul 2026 · 5 min read

Nominal capacity is a starting point, not a spec. The size that works is the one where fill, headspace, label and carton all agree.

Start from the fill, not the bottle

Take your target fill volume and add headspace for expansion and for the dropper insert displacement. A 60 ml fill in a 60 ml bottle leaves nothing for either.

Check the label panel before artwork

Every format has a usable panel height and circumference. Warnings, batch codes and nutrition or compliance text eat that space fast. Pull the dimensions drawing before your designer starts.

Confirm the carton and pallet fit

A slightly taller bottle can drop the units per carton and raise your landed cost per unit more than the bottle price difference. Compare cost per filled unit shipped, not price per bottle.

Key takeaways

  • Add headspace for expansion and insert displacement
  • Validate the label panel against the drawing before artwork
  • Compare landed cost per filled unit, not bottle price
