The questions buyers ask before they place a first order. Regulations change, so treat this as a starting point and confirm the current text for your market.
- Which rules apply to child-resistant e-liquid packaging?
- In the EU, the Tobacco Products Directive (2014/40/EU, Article 20) requires e-liquid containers to be child-resistant and tamper-evident, protected against breakage and leakage, and refillable without leakage. Child-resistance for reclosable packaging is normally demonstrated against EN ISO 8317. Nicotine e-liquids also fall under CLP (Regulation 1272/2008), which requires child-resistant fastenings and, depending on classification, a tactile warning triangle. In the US, the Child Nicotine Poisoning Prevention Act requires liquid nicotine containers to use special packaging tested to 16 CFR 1700.20.
- Is a child-resistant cap enough on its own?
- No. Child-resistance is a property of the closure and the bottle together, tested as one system. A certified cap on a different neck finish or a different resin is not covered by the original test report. Keep body and closure from the same supplier and the same specification, and re-test if you change either one.
- Do you supply certification documents?
- Yes. For the stocked Chubby Gorilla formats we can provide the child-resistance test documentation, food-contact and material declarations, and technical drawings with neck finish and wall thickness. Ask for the documents in your quote request and we send them with the pricing.
- What about tamper evidence?
- TPD asks for tamper-evident packaging as well as child-resistance. Most e-liquid lines cover this with a break-off tamper ring on the closure, and add a shrink sleeve or a label bridging the cap when they want a visible second signal. Both work on the standard unicorn formats.
- Which sizes are used for nicotine e-liquid in the EU?
- TPD caps nicotine-containing e-liquid refill containers at 10 ml. Larger unicorn sizes (30, 60 and 120 ml) are used for nicotine-free bases, shortfills and non-EU markets. We stock the 10 ml format alongside the larger sizes so a single order can cover both lines.
- Will the bottles run on my filling line?
- The stocked formats are the ones already running on high-speed e-liquid lines: consistent tip diameter, consistent neck finish, low reject rate on capping. Tell us your line and fill speed in the quote request and we confirm the format, or send samples first so you can validate on your own equipment.
- How do labels behave on PET and LDPE bottles?
- PET takes standard pressure-sensitive labels well. LDPE unicorn bodies squeeze in use, so use a flexible facestock and an adhesive rated for squeeze applications, otherwise the label lifts at the edges. We can share the recommended label spec for each format.
- What are the lead times and minimums?
- Stocked formats ship from European inventory, usually within the same week for case quantities. Carton and pallet quantities move to a scheduled run with better unit pricing. Custom colours and printing are quoted per project with a separate lead time.
