What the tip is
On a unicorn bottle the tip is the narrow plastic spout that sits inside the neck. The child-resistant cap covers the tip and threads onto the bottle. When you open the bottle, you are removing the cap, not the tip. The tip only gets damaged if the cap catches it on the way out.
The correct technique
Do this with dry hands and the bottle upright on a flat surface.
- Press the cap firmly straight down, do not squeeze the sides of the bottle
- While holding pressure, turn counter clockwise until the closure releases
- Lift the cap straight up, keeping the tip clear of the neck thread
- To close, press down and turn clockwise until you feel the ratchet stop
Why the cap feels stuck
Child-resistant closures need downward force before the thread engages. Turning without pressing simply skips the ratchet, which feels like the cap is jammed and, over several attempts, rounds the closure teeth.
How the tip gets damaged
The tip is plastic and it is thin. It does not break from normal opening, but it will crack if the cap pulls it sideways. The two common mistakes are lifting the cap at an angle and prying underneath it with a tool. Both lever the cap against the tip and snap the spout or split the shoulder.
If the tip is blocked with cured liquid, warm water on the outside of the tip softens the residue enough to clear it. Do not force the cap off or dig into the tip.
If you need to remove the tip itself
Some users remove the tip to refill or clean the bottle. Grip the base of the tip, not the tapered end, and pull straight up. Levering it sideways is what cracks the shoulder.
For fillers and production lines
If operators struggle on the line, the issue is usually torque setting rather than the bottle. Match the closure torque to the supplier spec and test a sample run before committing volume.
